St Cuthbert's Association

the alumni organisation of St Cuthbert’s Society, Durham (Est 1949)

Message from the Society Acting Principal

Dear Alumni,

Firstly, can I introduce myself as the Acting Principal of St Cuthbert’s Society.  I am delighted to be appointed to this role and am looking forward to working with all staff, students and the members of the wider college community.  Secondly, in the form of an e-letter each term I am very keen to establish a regular link with the wider St Cuthbert’s Society alumni community and its Alumni Association; I see your role as vital in supporting the future development of St Cuthbert’s Society.

125th Anniversary Celebrations
We are aiming to produce a book entitled “Memories of St Cuthbert’s Society 1888 – 2013″.  The purpose of the book will be to record both photographs and memories from the past for future generations of “Cuth’s” students.  It will raise funds for the newly created Trust and will also provide a contribution to a named local charity.  We would be looking to alumni to help us by providing photographs and memories of their time at St Cuthbert’s Society.  Also, we would anticipate having a 125th Celebration Dinner in September 2013 to which you will be invited.

Visits to St Cuthbert’s Society
If you are ever in the area and would like to visit St Cuthbert’s Society, please do let me know.  We still hold our Friday lunches each week during term time and I would be delighted to invite you to attend as a guest.  Please feel free to contact me direct viasharon.richardson@durham.ac.uk

Support our Students
As part of our mentoring support to our students, we organise a weekly Student Development and Employability Programme; the aim of which is to support the personal development of students and to increase employability.  We use speakers from the SCR, the JCR, the University and the local community.  However, we would like to extend this to the Alumni Association.  If you are interested in becoming part of our team of speakers, please contact the Acting Senior Tutor, Barbara Harrison, via barbara.harrison@durham.ac.uk

Financial Support
In September 2011, Professor Amanda Broderick, Acting Principal (April to September) presented St Cuthbert’s vision for the future; a new community hub for staff and students.  As part of our fundraising campaign for the 125th Anniversary, we are asking our alumni to donate £5 to our Trust; the trust money will be used to help fund this project.  All Alumni who contribute will have their name recorded on a Donations Board in the new space that we hope to create.
